The creation of the Internet

The first functional computers were created in 1957 however these computers could only do one task at a time making them not very useful but throughout 1957 these computers got bigger and bigger to the point where they needed to be stored in their own rooms. Eventually this lead to other smaller computers being connected to the one big computer. This lead to the time-sharing concept where multiple users could use the one big computer via the smaller computers. This then lead to the creation of DARPA (Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency). Before DARPA knowledge was shared via human communication however DARPA created the ARPANET which would be one large computer system that could be accessed to gather knowledge. The ARPANET (created in 1966) would also make sure than already existing information is not duplicated. Three other networks were then created (NPL, CYCLADES, and RAND). These four networks are what make up the foundations for our modern internet.
